Director Ridley Scott, known for various classic films like Alien and Blade Runner has launched a new virtual reality division through his production company RSA Film according to The Hollywood Reporter Article ‘Ridley Scott’s RSA Film Launches Virtual Reality Division’ by Gregg Kilday published on April 17, 2017.
The division is dedicated to the development production of virtual reality and augmented reality in mixed media. Scott’s first project is for his upcoming film Alien: Covenant, in partnership with Twentieth Century Fox. Jen Dennis will be the lead with Scott for RSA VR. The two collaborated before co-producing The Martian VR Experience, that went along with Scott’s film. RSA also has in development a VR episodic series called Blackbox and an episodic VR documentary.
This is exciting and interesting news that someone like Ridley Scott is pushing for expanding on bring quality VR content, especially when it is a companion to his blockbuster films. I think this will open the door for other production companies to hop onto VR as the technology is pushed to tell a wider variety of immersive content.
